Too many times people can lift the weight on the way up, but forget about controlling the weight on the way down (which is half the movement). In this video I’m simply demonstrating that I can step up with 80’s in each hand but stepping up is only half the movement. I neglect the lowering part of the movement and basically let gravity and the weight bring me back down as my muscles are basically relaxed until I hit the ground. The second half of the video, I’m performing the same movement but with half the weight and make it a point to control the weight on the way down not giving my muscles any time to relax. The time under tension is greater and each rep is twice as stimulating and effective even with half the load. So don’t neglect half the movement of each rep and understand that lifting heavier doesn’t necessarily mean you are using more muscles or building more strength.
