I worked under a supportive PI and postdoc, learned a ton, got to publish and go to conferences, but ultimately, i knew i had to move on. I made the decision to transition to biotech for more upward career mobility, more resources for the science, and financial freedom. But, I wouldn’t have been competitive enough for the job I ultimately got without my experience as a tech. In fact, my strengths noted during performance reviews are often skills I honed as a tech, such as preparing clean data slides, creating clear figures, and presenting data effectively. I’ll credit my former post doc Denise for those skills :) So is a lab tech position a good job for you? Maybe! It definitely was a great stepping stone in my career, even when my goals changed and I no longer wanted to pursue a graduate level degree. #biotech #biomajor #labtech #college #careeradvice #biotech #stemmajor less
