But personally, these are some of the things I do while still being highly motivated and going “above and beyond”. I think a big theme here is going to be your manager, and your overall workplace culture. This will greatly impact your ability to successfully balance, regardless of your own choices (still possible, but much harder and in worst cases, detrimental to your growth/progress at your job). I had the luxury of a better job market when i was last applying, so I had a few offers on the table to negotiate with, and also be able to turn down a company that was gonna pay me well, but had an iffy culture reputation, while the company i ended up accepting an offer from had a great culture reputation (MAJOR downside here, i accepted a lower title to do this too, so it came with a big giant caveat - im glad i went with the choice i did still) So I know what works for me doesn’t work for everyone, and there’s definitely privilege baked in here.
