It was a stranger on the Internet: "You’re only creating SheFi to boost your own brand." I was stunned. The idea of building a “personal brand” hadn’t even crossed my mind. I had maybe a few thousand incidental Twitter followers, but I wasn’t thinking about marketing myself. I was thinking about building something for others. But that comment? It burrowed in. Even though I believed in SheFi’s mission, I decided to keep Maggie Love and SheFi brands separate. I didn’t want anyone to think I was chasing clout or virtue signaling. So for two years, I kept my personal account quiet. Never retweeting or talking about SheFi. Then something shifted in me. It was 2022, and I felt this quiet, steady voice rise up inside me. A voice that said being visible, being bold, wasn’t ego. It was purpose. Wouldn’t more people believe in SheFi if they saw how much I believed? So I stepped into the spotlight. I started owning our story, championing and defending our mission. After that, everything began to grow. My personal brand and SheFi became mutually reinforcing engines. We landed bigger sponsors. More women joined. But people weren’t just going to discover SheFi. I had to tell them. Looking back, I missed out on years of growth—both for myself and for SheFi—because I was afraid of being judged. So here’s what I’ll tell you now: Build your personal brand. Yes, people may judge, questioning your motives, authenticity, or stories. Let them. No one else can tell your story except you. So, where to begin? Share something. Anything. Show up with your thoughts, and then do it again tomorrow. At first, it might feel awkward or scary. But it gets easier. The ideas come faster. The posts get stronger. Your voice gets louder. And soon, something magical will happen: You’ll be empowered. Learn from my mistakes. Don’t let one voice online stop you. Become your own strongest voice. Your own biggest believer.
