The two tips pick up odor molecules from each side simultaneously, which then transport those molecules to their Jacobson (or vomeronasal) organs. There are sensory cells in these organs that send information to the same part of the brain as the nose. Each tongue-tip takes molecules to their own organ, which allows the snake to process which side has a stronger smell. The flicking action works up and concentrates the molecules in the air, allowing the snake to collect molecules more quickly. #ballpython #snakeeducation #satinethesnake less
