Adopting full digital ID comes with its own set of problems. Tech isn't perfect, it malfunctions, breaks, batteries die, etc. Most emergency services personnel have attended calls where a driver may not be responsive and may require medical attention. There's plenty of scenarios where physical ID makes sense. God help us if we reach a point where we can just be scanned and all our info will come up, and I say that as someone who uses a digital wallet and loves the convenience.
