It senses people in spaces like airports or terminals, where most of us are isolated and glued to personal devices, MirrorBot relies on autonomous navigation and adaptive mirrors to disrupt this digital isolation. The robot has four modes —Voids, Dual Self, Dual Other, and Self + Other—to accordingly change a person's focus from themselves to the people around them. Armed with a RealSense camera and special Eye Contact Algorithms, it detects head position and gauages social willingness to enabled brief, non-verbal interactions as seen through the reflections on the mirrors. Once the gaze meets, people are likely to break the ice and talk to each other. The broad idea is to spark an eye contact and then allow playful engagement among strangers. #robot#robotics#technology#technews less
