I’m not a woman by any chance, but as someone who fears getting old, this is really close to my heart. I’ve been surrounded by and looking up to women growing up, and I’m no stranger to the double standards that were imposed on us, especially on women. There’s this social construct that your 20s are your best years, your prime, and that you have to make the most of them because once you reach 30, no one wants to see your wrinkles anymore, the weight you've gained, and all these things they call “imperfections” in our bodies that are completely normal. In this shoot, I used cling wrap (plastic wrap) as a metaphor kasi diba we use plastic wrap to preserve food such as fruits to keep it fresh for longer. Just like how we “want” to stay in what we call the “prime years”. I had to unlearn this idea, and I’m not going to lie, I’m still in the middle of unlearning it. But at the same time I’m learning that in our 30s we carry more wisdom, we are wiser, and more mature. And who wouldn’t want someone like that? Growing up, I always heard the phrase “age is just a number” and now that I am older, it makes sense. It really is just a number, and a number cannot define us, but the lessons and wisdom we carry through the years CAN. :) #primeyears #doublestandards #photography less
