Or maybe it’s just my age. But I get really thrown when things don’t go as planned. I like knowing what’s coming. I like control. I like when things unfold exactly the way I imagined them. But this weekend, my daughter and her team taught me a masterclass in resilience. Right in the middle of their cheer routine, her shoe flew off. Not at the edge of the mat. Not during a pause. Right in the middle of high-stakes stunts and tumbling. And no one panicked. She kept going—tumbling passes, jumps, choreography—with one shoe. Her teammates kept going too. Tumbling over it. Narrowly avoiding it. One of them even smoothly placed it off the mat mid-routine… with a smile that never broke character. No hesitation. No meltdown. No looking to the sidelines for an adult to fix it. Just pure adaptability, composure, and teamwork. As a mom, I wasn’t most proud of them hitting zero. I was most proud of that. Because things will go wrong. On the stage. In school. In life. And the ability to keep going anyway—calmly, confidently, together—that’s the real win. Parenting is exhausting, and we spend so much time worrying if we are equipping them for the real world. Moments like this remind me: they are listening, they are learning, and they are so much stronger than we think. (And they did end up winning Grand Champs!) #cheermom #doctormom #parentingwithpurpose less
