We think if they are in the house, where we can see them, they are protected. I used to do this too. It feels so much easier to just say “no” and let them stay on the couch. But here is the hard truth we are all facing right now: * Kids today have virtually zero unsupervised, play-based independence. * By trying to protect them from the physical world, we pushed them into the “wild west” of the digital world. * Data from NYU researcher Jonathan Haidt shows this exact shift is directly tied to the massive spike in teen anxiety and depression. We are overprotecting them in the real world, and underprotecting them online. When their brains are deprived of real-world navigation, problem-solving, and minor physical risks, they seek that dopamine and thrill on their phones. We have to start letting them practice being humans in the real world again. Start small. Three blocks. One errand. Just get them out the door. What age did you first let your kids walk somewhere alone? Was it hard for you to let go? Tell me in the comments! #screenfreeparenting #childhoodunplugged #anxiousgenerationchallenge less
