Through corridors of doubt — dim-lit and long. I learned to breathe in absence of a song. The night was not a thing that passed me by. It pressed its weight against my ribs to try. If I would fracture — splinter — cease to be. Instead, it carved a deeper shape in me. No hand to steady — trembling — no refrain. To soften sharp articulations of pain. Each step, a thesis writ in pulse and bone. Proved I could bear the unbearable—alone. What terror taught was neither kind nor brief. It schooled me in the dialect of grief. Yet in that tongue, poignant and unadorned. A rarer — harder fluency was formed. I found within the marrow of despair. A quiet architecture standing there. A structure not of comfort — nor of plea. But … self-sustained, unyielding clarity. And then — no thunderclap — no grand display — Just lucid dawn dissolving ash to gray: “I do not need the presence of another. To name me whole, to anchor or to tether.” For I have met the edges of my mind. Where lesser faith would falter — fray — or blind. I stood, unaccompanied, and did not break— What more assurance could existence make? Yet should a soul, in gentle orbit, draw? Not from my lack, nor driven by a flaw— But by the quiet gravity we share. A mutual choosing, conscious and aware. Then let it be not hunger, nor demand. But two complete horizons hand in hand. Not seeking halves — nor remedies to mend. But strength with strength, and self with self to blend. #HaveJoY #mypoetry @SusanmorrisOnTikTok less
